Company Policy should cover time and attendance software too
It was only eight months back that I had time and attendance system installed at my firm; that also after constant pestering from my HR head. Now, I can’t thank him enough. I always argued what was the need for scheduling software when the mechanical punch clocks and paper timesheets are doing the something. Well, I was aware that my employees were buddy punching; but I did not know that it was such a common practice. I am not a techno wiz, and therefore these time and attendance software seemed very complicated to me at first. Moreover, I had also heard that the cost of installing the whole new hardware is a lot too.
Finally, after a lot of thought I decided to have a look at these programs. It astonished me how much these software had to offer. You can surely find a program to suit your needs, whether your business is big or small. There are the basic time and attendance software for the smaller businesses, such as swipe cards. The bigger businesses usually have their employee tracking software customized to meet their needs. The biometric time and attendance systems are becoming fairly popular today. They take the biological impressions to record the time. These are especially beneficial for those who have people working in remote places. These biometric systems can be installed anywhere. There are also many time tracking software that can tell you the pinpoint locations of your workers. Besides this they keep records of the projects each individual is working on. They also keep track of the overtime, holidays and vacations, besides calculating the profits of your company.
Once I had this software installed I noticed a number of positive changes in my staff. It is very rare now that any of them is late; and since I also have a biometric time and attendance program, no one can sign in for anyone else. If anyone is late constantly late without any valid reason, they are penalized. Furthermore, the GPS system lets me know where they are. Now I can know if they are at a meeting or having a meal after. It is not that I want to be one of those iron hand employers, but if practices like this occur every day, it has a very negative impact on the business. If the employees are not on time or waste their time sitting in front of the PCs the work they are allotted is then not completed on time, and obviously the client is not so pleased. This also means that we can lose some of our very important customers. The employees then also work overtime, which is unrequited. The time and attendance has made this job very easy. Now the HR department keeps accurate records of the workers’ timings. This has also increased a lot of the company’s savings.
I have heard a number of people saying that their employees are completely against the time and attendance programs, and hence they have it downgraded to recording just the daily logging in and out timings in collective bargaining. However I feel that the time tracking software
should now be a part of company policy. The employees should realize that running a business is not a piece of cake for us!
